Recipient
of three design awards, the Dallas Garden Center Solarium located in the
State Fair Grounds was designed to be an environment for growing
and exhibiting specimen plants which seamlessly interfaces with the surrounding
outdoor gardens and park. The structure is a plaster-fireproofed
steel frame sheathed in clear glass. The proportioned mullion pattern is
used not only to structure the windows and define the limits of the enclosure,
but to add scale and richness of texture. Contained within the single volume
space are many vantage points from which to view the plants. A continuous
sloping terrain with brick walks provide the visitor an uninterrupted journey
through nature.
