The
Dallas-based firm offers design services in the fields of urban design,
architecture, historic preservation and interiors. The firm
has designed projects in eighteen states and seven foreign countries.
Principals of the firm are James Pratt, F.A.I.A. and Thomas Marshall, A.I.A.
URBAN DESIGN
In urban design, James
Pratt Architecture / Urban Design, Inc. (JPAUDI) fills a unique
position, interfacing between traditional planning and engineering, developers,
park / recreation disciplines and governmental and neighborhood groups.
It has carved out a unique specialty in projects involving multiple clients,
multiple funding entities, and concensus building. The firm has carried
out a $230,000 urban design and traffic management study for a group of
24 clients wherein they interfaced with city and state agencies and multiple
private interests. In another project, they have brought together
city, county and private funding sources to design the city's five acre
Exposition Plaza, a $10 million urban design and traffic improvement project
in honor of the state's 150th birthday. They are a part of the team
selected by the City of Dallas to design the KATY Trail, Dallas's first
alternate transportation project.

In
addition to short-term urban design solutions, the firm has become known
for its identification of long-range design opportunities.
Through creation of large-scale drawings to illustrate design concepts
and obtaining public response, the firm has seen many of the "what-if"
concepts adopted and pursued by both private and public clients.
HISTORIC PRESERVATION
The firm performs restoration
services for technically complex 19th century structures. These include
the 1893 Dallas County Courthouse, and conservation of the city's first
icon, the Bryan Cabin.
