Great Hall of the Apparel Mart
Logo The Great Hall is a space which allows individuals to relax in an intimate setting during wholesale markets, providing cafeteria dining and fashion museum display.  Designed for very diverse uses, it is used for special functions such as concerts, national television shows, large fashion shows, political rallies and dances for crowds of 5,000. Undulating walls, built-in lounge seating, level changes, balconies, plants and fountains form both the overall space and a secondary group of more intimate spaces. Fluid geometry and natural light are used to contrast the 2.4 million square feet of small showrooms surrounding the Great hall.  During the interim periods between shows, the stage is removed to reveal a reflecting pool with a large fountain capable of reaching 40 feet heights.

The project entailed:

  • Designing a space 42,000 sq. ft. in area and sixty ft. high already defined within a building envelope
  • Planning for special functions - fully equipped stagehouse
  • Designing interior furnishings, selection of tableware and other furnishings
  • Stage equipment selection
