Located
in Farmers Branch, a suburb of Dallas, Brookhaven Community College is
a collection of nine closely linked buildings which form a series of courtyards
and other outdoor spaces. These lead to a main focal space in the
center of the campus. This court unites the library, theater, student lounge,
and indoor recreational area and dining rooms. The court contains informal
outdoor eating and lounging, provision for festive decoration and group
assembly with a temporary stage. One of the 35-foot-high brick walls
is accented with green, glazed brick strips of varying widths. The
same special brick accents long bench tops, window sills and a fountain
in the court. Arcades line two sides of the space and graduated windows
up to 24 feet in height relate the court to the theater lobby/student
lounge.
Originally calling for 275,000 sq. ft. of building space, the program was expanded to 336,000 sq. ft. and kept within the established project budget. Services Provided include:
