Visions_________________________________________________________________________
Carving out its' own unique
identity among the array of Dallas Architecture firms, James Pratt Architecture/Urban
Design is perhaps best known for its' long-range
visionary planning in the city. The ability to think beyond the
building and its' immediate site has rendered the firm a valuable asset
to the city, county and various private planning groups. Consideration
for the greater city as a whole by examination of arterials and roadways,
traffic patterns and modes of transportation are vital to the understanding
of the very fabric of which the city is composed. As the city grows
and evolves over time, the successful integration of all variables is a
challenge that must be met.
Links____________________________________________________________________________
It is in this place, where
the automobile reigns as the supreme tribute to our upwardly mobile existence,
that a rediscovery of the quality of human space must take place.
In order to re-engage our environment, the exploration of alternative
means of transportation and the creation of plazas, parks
and promenades is paramount. A series
of such places serve as nodes along the travel and as such, provide orientation
and interval for an individual to identify with.
Destinations__________________________________________________________________
At the terminus of any journey,
one arrives at a destination. In any city, points of destination
which help signify the specific identity of the particular city are integral
to the overall urban fabric. Be it a shopping
center, school, office, residence, museum,
or church, a strong sense of place will
convey that one has arrived. In a place such as Dallas, where so
much of the architectural heritage has been long-lost, the few remaining
examples
must be cherished as crucial to the identity of the city. Historic
structures can be restored and reused in ways other than for which they
were originally intended. They can serve as flagships, attracting visitors
from afar to come and experience what great culture a city may offer.
